On Tuesday, February 7, 1967, beginning at 8:00 PM, the first official meeting of the Central Arizona Region of the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America was held in Phoenix at Rudolph Chevrolet, the world’s largest Chevrolet dealership. 20 of the new Region’s 32 members were present.
The first director of the Central Arizona Region (CAR) was Glenn Johnson, and the secretary/treasurer of the region was Tom Krill. After discussing the club’s business, the first meeting was adjourned at 10:00 PM by Director Johnson, and those present enjoyed fellowship over refreshments which formed one of the first traditions of the club that still is observed today after every meeting.
Upon its charter in 1967, The Phoenix-based Central Arizona Region became the 16th charted region of the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America.
The region was organized for the purpose of promoting the restoration preservation of vintage Chevrolets. Today, the region enjoys a membership roster of approximately 24 families. We welcome anyone who has a sincere interest in the enjoyment of the automobile.
The club holds regular business meetings, and its leadership is comprised of four officers and a six-member board of directors. We are an active region that hosts Arizona’s “One and Only” oldest continuing running automotive swap meet and parts exchange held at Glendale Community College in March and October each year. The club participates in local car shows, tours many interesting points of interests throughout Arizona and enjoys many social activities such as the annual holiday banquet, picnics and other fun events.
